3D Garden Designer (https://3dgardendesigner.com) is a garden design service by YLabs. This page explains what we store, what we never collect, and how you can have your data deleted.
What we store
- Your account email address, and a hash of your password. We never store the password itself.
- If you sign in with Google: your Google account's identifier, so that you can sign in that way again. We ask Google only for your email address, and keep nothing else from it.
- Your gardens: the plan, every saved revision of it, the reference images you upload (a plot plan or a yard photo), and a small preview picture of the garden's 3D view, which your own browser makes when the 3D is built, so your list of gardens can show it. Only you see it.
- The realistic pictures you make of a garden, and a record of each attempt (when, for which garden and version, whether it worked, and what it cost us), so we can count your free pictures and keep the cost in check. When an attempt fails, we keep a short technical note of why (never your design or pictures).
- Connector keys as hashes. When you connect an AI assistant, we store only a hashed key, never the key in readable form.
- Basic usage events: for example that you signed up, connected an assistant, saved, edited, deleted, restored or removed a garden, or opened its 3D view, with the time, your account and which assistant or page it came from (for a connection, the assistant's name). For a deleted, restored or removed garden we keep only its version number and its size (how many areas, paths and items), never the design or its name. They help us keep the service working.
- Problem reports you ask your assistant to send: your message, up to 1,000 characters, the time, your account, which assistant sent it, and the garden id if you provide one. We use these reports to investigate problems with the service. The message is not returned by our tools or written to technical logs.
What we never collect
- We do not ask for your location or read location hints attached by an AI assistant. A problem report may contain details you choose to include.
- No photo GPS or other image metadata: every uploaded image is re-encoded and its metadata blocks (including EXIF location and colour profiles) are removed before it is stored.
- No contact lists.
AI assistants (ChatGPT, Claude)
You can connect 3D Garden Designer to an AI assistant such as ChatGPT or Claude. You sign in to 3D Garden Designer and approve the connection; the assistant then holds a connection key that acts for your account until you disconnect it.
- The assistant sends us the tool request it makes for you (for example the edit to make), not your conversation. Extra details an assistant may attach, such as an approximate location, are not read or stored.
- We handle such a request like the same action on the plan page.
- You can disconnect every assistant at once from the Account menu when you are signed in at https://3dgardendesigner.com.
- Your chat with the assistant is processed by the assistant's provider under that provider's own privacy policy and your settings there, not under this page.
Sharing a garden
Gardens are not shared by default. You can turn sharing on for each garden. Anyone with the link can view its current title, plan, 3D walk and the notes written on the plan without signing in, but cannot edit it. Uploaded tracing images and your account name and email are not included. Details you write in the title or notes are visible to anyone with the link. The link opens the current design, so changes you save are visible through it.
We store the share-link token in readable form in our database so we can show you the same link again while sharing is on. Turning sharing off ends that link for good. Turning it on again creates a new link. Deleting a garden ends its link, and restoring the garden does not turn sharing back on. Ending a link stops further access through it; it cannot remove copies a viewer has already made. We ask search engines not to index shared pages and tell browsers and other caches not to store their responses.
Service providers
If you choose Continue with Google, Google confirms who you are under Google's own privacy policy and tells us your email address.
The service is hosted on DigitalOcean. Transactional email (sign-in) is sent through Mailgun. Cloudflare provides network delivery and security: every request to this website and to the connector passes through it, and it processes request data such as your IP address and browser type to deliver the service and protect it from abuse. They process data only to run the service for us.
When you make a realistic picture, the 3D view on your screen, a short description of the design (the kinds, sizes and materials in it) and your wish for the picture, if you write one, are sent to OpenAI, which makes the picture. We do not store your wish. It is made with OpenAI under its API terms (API content is not used to train models). OpenAI may keep the request and the picture for a limited time to check for abuse, as set out in OpenAI's API data retention terms.
When you write to our support address, the message is received in Google's Gmail, where we read and answer it, and replies may be drafted with AI assistance from Anthropic (Claude). Both are used under Google's and Anthropic's standard terms, not under a data processing agreement with us, and process the email in the United States.
On your device
When you sign in, your browser keeps a sign-in cookie and sends it with each request, so you stay signed in. Your browser also keeps a few settings in its local storage: lighter or full 3D graphics, how the screen is split between the plan and the 3D view, which groups of the plan's item list you folded away, and whether this device draws 3D slowly (checked once, when its first 3D view is drawn), so the 3D can use a lighter look. They stay on your device and are not sent to us. We use no advertising or tracking cookies.
Your browser also remembers your chosen language in its local storage. To display a language other than English, it requests that language's translation file from our server. The language choice is not saved to your account.
How long we keep it
- Gardens, their history and their images: until you delete the garden, or until your account is deleted. After you delete a garden, we keep it for 30 days so that support can bring it back if you ask, and then remove it for good.
- Realistic pictures: until the garden they belong to is removed for good (30 days after you delete it), or until your account is deleted. The record of each attempt stays with your account until the account is deleted, so deleting a garden does not change how many free pictures you have left. The technical notes about failed attempts keep no link to you once your account is deleted.
- Usage events: while your account exists. When the account is deleted, the events are kept without any link to it.
- Problem reports: while your account exists. Deleting a garden does not delete its problem reports. When your account is deleted, we delete the reports linked to it, including their message text.
- Reference images you removed from a garden: we keep the five newest per garden so that undo can bring them back; older ones are deleted.
- Backups: our hosting provider keeps database backups for a limited time, at most 30 days, and then they expire.
Deleting your data
You can delete a garden, with its history and images, from Your gardens or from its plan page at any time. Right after deleting, Undo brings it back; after that, we keep it for 30 days so that support can bring it back if you ask, and then remove it for good. To delete your account with all its gardens, including recently deleted ones, email support@3dgardendesigner.com from your account address. See also support.
Children
3D Garden Designer is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.
International transfers
Our hosting, email, network and image providers named above may process data outside your country, where that is part of the provider's data processing terms.
Changes
If we change this policy, we update the date at the top of this page.
