How 3D Garden Designer Works
Last updated: 2026-10-10
3D Garden Designer (https://3dgardendesigner.com) is a garden design connector. It builds a measured garden plan from your yard size and your wishes, shows it as an editable 2D plan page and as a 3D walk, and lets you edit it by chatting or on the plan page itself.
Connecting
3D Garden Designer connects through AI assistants. In ChatGPT or Claude: add the connector, then sign in with your 3D Garden Designer account and approve the connection. The assistant can then work on your gardens until you remove it.
The tools
The assistant can use these tools, one line each:
- design_garden — design a whole garden in one call from the yard size and the user's wishes; returns the plan and 3D links.
- create_garden_plan — start a garden from the yard (and house) and get the plan page to draw on.
- get_garden_summary — read a garden's measured layout, list saved gardens, or list the kinds and materials.
- get_garden_link — get the link to a garden's editable 2D plan or its 3D walk.
- get_realistic_picture_link — get the link where you make a realistic visualisation of your garden design from its 3D view.
- list_my_gardens — list your saved gardens.
- add_area — draw a lawn, bed, patio, deck, gravel or mulch area.
- add_path — draw a path along points, at a width and material.
- add_tree — place a tree at true size, optionally with its mature size, so the plan shows the space it will need.
- add_shrub_or_hedge — place a shrub at a point, or draw a hedge along a line.
- add_garden_feature — place a pool, pergola, shed, seating, play equipment and more, or draw a fence or garden wall.
- move_or_resize_item — move, rotate or resize any labelled item, area, path, the yard or the house.
- set_garden_boundary — set or change the garden's boundary: a rectangle by width and depth, or an outline of corners.
- set_house — set or change the house's footprint: a rectangle by position and size, or an outline of corners.
- set_material — change a surface's material without changing its shape.
- remove_item — remove an item after the user agreed; the garden's history can bring it back.
- undo_last_edit — undo the latest edit; repeat to step back further.
- rename_garden — change a saved garden's title.
- duplicate_garden — make a copy of a saved garden as a new garden.
- report_garden_problem — save a problem report for the makers, using the user's own words, at the user's request.
- get_sharing — check whether a garden is shared and get its view-only link.
- set_sharing — turn a garden's public view-only link on or off.
Limits of the first version
- Ground is modelled flat; slopes and terracing are not supported yet.
- Plants can carry their own name, such as Olive tree. A plant picked from the plan's plant list looks like that plant in the 3D view (its own shape, leaf colour and fruit or blossom); other plants are drawn by their plant group (for example deciduous, conifer, palm, fruit; round, tall, flowering).
